HIS TIME IS short....
As we conclude our study on the Book of 1 Peter, we have been reminded that all who will live godly in this life will suffer persecution. We must see suffering from God’s perspective. He has a plan for our lives which results in His glory and our good. The lost world watches how we respond to suffering because it will indicate to them whether or not our faith is genuine, one to be grasp by anyone, or whether we are just playing games. We must keep our eyes on future glory (Romans 8
: 18) knowing that it is always preceded by suffering, just as it was in Jesus’ life.
It is fitting that Peter would conclude by warning us of our adversary, Satan. Peter had been his victim so he knew what he was talking about. Jesus said Satan wanted to sift Peter like wheat. Peter tells us that our adversary, as a roaring lion, seeks to devour us. As the coming of the Lord approaches, I believe that there will be perilous times (2 Timothy
3
: 1). Paul goes on to say “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
Why will times become worse and perious? I believe the Bible gives us a clue in Revelation 12
: 12
: “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” In the light of the times we live in, let us heed Peter’s words
: “Be sober, be vigilant.”
