old-hands-and-bibleIs the Bible Relevant for Today?

The story is told of a man who came to visit his old friend, a music teacher. As the man came in, he said, “What’s the good news today?” The old teacher was silent as he stood up and walked across the room. He picked up a small hammer and struck a tuning fork. As the note sounded throughout the room, he said, “That is ‘A.’ It is ‘A’ today; it was ‘A’ 5,000 years ago, and it will be ‘A’ 10,000 years from now. The soprano upstairs sings off-key, the tenor across the hall flats on his high notes, and the piano downstairs is out of tune.” He struck the note again and said, “That is ‘A,’ my friend, and that’s the good news for today!”
There are two Biblical truths that are especially noteworthy concerning the relevance of the Bible for today: First, “Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8); Second, Jesus said, “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
As we continue our study on Sunday mornings entitled, “Experiencing God,” and our study on Sunday evenings entitled, “The Ten Commandments,” we can be assured of these two truths: God’s Word never changes and it is as relevant for us today as it was the very day it was given to man. God gave it to us so that “the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished (perfectly equipped) unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:17)
